BronxWorks is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the economic and social well-being of individuals and families in the Bronx. From young children to elderly people, they provide food, shelter, education, and support to build a stronger community. Recently, Mayor Eric Adams announced Get Stuff Built, a three-pronged effort to tackle the affordable housing crisis in New York City and the underlying housing shortage. This initiative aims to construct 500,000 new homes over the next decade.
The winning proposal for this project was presented by a joint partnership between L+M Development Partners and Type A Projects, an emerging woman-owned developer that is renowned for its commitment to constructing affordable educational spaces and state-of-the-art public schools in New York City. The funding will also create exciting new green spaces, such as the expansion of the Harlem River Greenway to the Bronx, to extend access to affordable transportation for pedestrians and cyclists in underserved communities. Long-term projects will include more complex improvements that will be built as future capital projects. Home Street is Bronx Pro's first senior housing project and the site is less than half a mile from a 103-unit moderate-income project developed and owned by Bronx Pro at 850 Jennings.
The Bronx Point development will activate one of the largest remaining municipal parcels in the Bronx. Mayor Adams has also formally initiated the environmental review process to rezone the areas around two of the four new Metro-North train stations that will arrive in the Bronx, with proposals to create thousands of new homes and jobs that support families. These measures will accelerate and reduce the cost of development by accelerating project timelines by 50 percent, ensure environmental protection and significant public participation, and stimulate the creation of affordable housing throughout New York City. BronxWorks implements Mott Haven, a healthy and livable project to improve health conditions in the Mott Haven neighborhood. Community projects include interventions against youth violence, educational supports, workforce training in green jobs and home health care, and support for the Plaza Del Sol Health Center and Elmhurst Hospital.
